This is the trap that costs the most people the most money, because they did everything they thought they were supposed to. The car was going to be taken off the road, after all. The problem is that the Transport Agency treats the two pieces of information on the paper form differently.

The Swedish Transport Agency says this themselves: an off road notification applies from the day a complete report arrives, and the new owner has to take out insurance covering the time up until then. It can't be backdated.

What to do instead

Report the ownership change in the Swedish Transport Agency's app or e-service. The off road notification then takes effect instantly on report, and the gap never opens up. If you have to use the paper form: take out insurance from the ownership-change date, and cancel it as soon as you see the off road notification registered in the app. A modest premium for a few days is cheaper than 202 kronor a day.

Also worth knowing: you can't report an off road notification and licensing the vehicle for use again on the same day.
