About Trafikförsäkringsavgift.se
Trafikförsäkringsavgift.se was founded with a simple but firm goal: to help vehicle owners in Sweden avoid unnecessary debt, understand confusing rules, and act correctly in time.
Every year, tens of thousands of people receive a fee letter from the Swedish Motor Insurers' Committee (TFF). In almost every case, it's not about deliberately driving uninsured, but about hidden pitfalls: an ownership change delayed in the paperwork, a missed re-registration at inspection, or the belief that you can drive a car home on the seller's insurance. Most people who receive a fee simply don't understand why, and end up on hold with a support line that rarely has time to explain more than the amount.
Our background
The site is run by an independent team with many years of experience in the Swedish vehicle and insurance industry. We've worked specifically with motor insurance, debt collection, and payment default entries for years – with particular expertise in the administrative gap that often opens up between insured and uninsured vehicles.
After repeatedly meeting vehicle owners caught between government fees, insurers' systems, and unclear rules, we saw a clear need for an independent source. We explain the situation plainly, clearly, and without moralizing – so you can quickly stop new fees and sort out what applies.
Information from government agencies and insurers is often written in dense official language. When an invoice for several thousand kronor lands in your mailbox, you need fast, clear answers – not long legal text. That's especially true for anyone who doesn't have Swedish as a first language and receives an official letter in a language they don't fully command, which is part of why we're building out this English section, with more languages planned.
Our mission
- Plain-language explanations: we translate complex laws, like the Traffic Damage Act, into simple, practical language anyone can understand.
- Prevention: we want to reduce the number of uninsured vehicles in Sweden by explaining how to take out the right insurance from exactly the right date, before a fee can even arise.
- Independence: Trafikförsäkringsavgift.se is fully independent. We're not affiliated with the Swedish Motor Insurers' Committee (TFF), the Swedish Transport Agency, or any single insurance company. Our advice is always written from the vehicle owner's point of view.
How we work
Every article is based on publicly available information from the Swedish Motor Insurers' Committee, the Swedish Transport Agency, and the Traffic Damage Act (1975:1410). Sources are listed at the bottom of every article, along with the date the content was last checked against the original source. We provide general information, not legal advice tailored to your specific situation. If your case is complicated, or has already gone to the Enforcement Authority, it may be worth contacting a lawyer or your municipality's free budget and debt counselling service.
Our position on incorrect fees
The vast majority of fees from TFF are correct. In our assessment, when the underlying data is wrong, it's essentially always because of an incorrect record at the insurance company or in the vehicle register at the Swedish Transport Agency – never a mistake by TFF itself. We therefore don't encourage disputing TFF's fees, and instead explain where an incorrect underlying record should be corrected.
Contact
If it's about your own fee, TFF is who you should contact – see contact details here. We don't sell anything, don't broker loans, and have no customer support handling individual cases.
