Received an invoice?
Received a letter or invoice from the Swedish Motor Insurers' Committee (TFF)? This fee is issued when the Swedish Transport Agency sees that a vehicle has been uninsured, and most people who get it wonder the same things: why now, is the amount right, and what happens if it isn't paid in time? Here are eleven common situations where the fee has already arrived. Find yours and see what to do about it.
- Invoiced despite having insuranceI have an active policy, but still got a fee from TFF.
- New insurance after cancellationMy insurer cancelled my policy, and I want to be covered again as fast as possible.
- Invoiced for a car that's off the roadMy car is off the road, but I still got a fee from TFF.
- Insurance in someone else's nameThe car is registered to me, but the policy is in someone else's name, like a parent.
- A vehicle owned by an estateThe owner has passed away, and the vehicle is still listed as uninsured.
- Invoiced for a scrapped carI handed the car in for scrapping, but the fee arrived anyway.
- Invoiced for a car I already soldI sold the vehicle, but the fee still came to me.
- Invoiced despite a driving banThe vehicle has a driving ban, for example after a missed inspection, but still got a fee.
- Invoiced for a stolen vehicleThe vehicle was stolen, but I still got a fee from TFF.
- The car was at the garage or unusableThe car couldn't be driven during the period the fee covers.
- Invoiced for a classic vehicle, moped, or trailerThe vehicle is barely used, but still got a fee.
- Paid the invoice – is the car insured now?I paid the fee and want to know what happens next.
If you already have a fee in hand
- 1
Make sure the vehicle is insured or off the road today, so no new days are added.
- 2
Compare the dates on the fee with the ownership-change date at the Swedish Transport Agency and the confirmation from your insurer.
- 3
Dates don't match? TFF always relies on the vehicle register. A wrong ownership date or off-road notification date is corrected at the Transport Agency. A wrong insurance date is corrected at the insurer. TFF updates the fee automatically once the source is corrected.
- 4
Fee is correct? Pay before the due date, or contact TFF and ask about a payment plan before it goes to debt collection.
